This intensive five-day workshop is designed to provide a solid foundation in the process of painting a portrait from start to finish.

Topics covered include accuracy of proportions and drawing, tonal study/grisaille, achieving a likeness, the facial features, creating form and dimension, understanding light and shadow, and improving observational skills to see color and value relationships.

Demos will include how to organize and use the palette of colors and how to mix luminous flesh tones. We will also address what goes into the pose, lighting, background and composition.

The workshop opens with a Sunday evening welcome reception and portrait demo, followed by five-days, 6 hours each, of painting from the model at Heron Crest Studios. Workshop includes demos, discussion, Q and A, and one-on-one feedback at your easel. Class size limited to 10 students.
